ISTDP
(Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy)
I am very excited to be offering ISTDP, a new cutting edge approach that attempts to provide patients relief in a shorter time span. Having spent years training in and practicing psychoanalysis, I once believed that real transformations required a long term commitment to therapy multiple times per week. Depending on the severity of your issue this can still be true, but for many, your time in treatment can be greatly abbreviated through ISTDP. This is especially true for highly resilient patients who can tolerate greater pressure and challenge to evoke change.
ISTDP is particularly effective on treatment resistant patients who have struggled with long term depression, anxiety and mood disorders. In a given session, a patient can exhibit up to 150 unconscious defenses to avoid addressing a problem. When a patient is motivated by defenses rather than emotion this can create symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and even somatic conditions such as migraines, insomnia, fatigue and digestive issues. ISTDP involves highly pressurized sessions during which the therapist will block unconscious defenses to help the patient and therapist target the problem with the intention of providing more immediate relief.
